6 Tools Every DIYer Should Have
I started DIY terrified of power tools 😬. Hand-sawing, hammering, and sanding by hand? Exhausting! But I quickly learned that the right tools make all the difference—and now I can tackle projects faster, cleaner, and with way less frustration. Here’s an affiliate link to all the tools listed below.

1. Drill
This is hands-down my most-used tool—I probably use it 100 times a week. From drilling holes to attaching pieces, it does it all. For example, I drilled into a panel board to secure a closet to the wall. Once you get comfortable with it, a drill becomes your best friend for almost every project.

2. Tape Measure
Measure twice, cut once—and lock it in place! I use mine on everything from craftsman trim to panel boards under my kitchen island. Accurate measurements save time, frustration, and wasted materials.

3. Miter Saw
Straight cuts made easy. I love using my miter saw for cutting 2x4s, trim, and more. It’s precise, fast, and instantly makes projects look polished. No more uneven cuts or hand-saw struggles!

4. Orbital Sander
Smooth wood in half the time. I use mine on window sills and pantry wood covers for wire racks I build. Adjustable power settings mean it’s perfect for everything from light sanding to heavy-duty smoothing.

5. Brad Nailer (Battery-operated)
This tool gets pieces up in seconds. I used it to attach panel boards under my kitchen island, and it’s a total game-changer. No more holding pieces in place while hammering—you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.

6. Kreg Jig Pocket Hole System
Strong joints without visible screws? Yes, please. I use my Kreg jig when attaching a 2×2 to a 2×4, like when I needed my kitchen cabinets under the island to be flush. It makes everything line up perfectly and gives your projects that professional touch.

Learning to use the right tools completely changed my DIY game. From scared-of-power-tools beginner to confident project-doer, these six essentials are the ones I reach for over and over. They make projects faster, easier, and actually fun.
