Faux French Doors for $13—No Power Tools Needed!

If you’ve ever looked at your builder-grade sliding glass doors and thought, “There has to be a way to make these look cuter,”—this one’s for you.

I recently gave ours a high-end, custom look using nothing but vinyl tape, a little Frog Tape, and a measuring tape. No drills, no power tools, no stress. And the best part? It cost me under $13. Yep—just thirteen bucks for a whole new vibe. (I already had the Frog Tape and the tape measure at home.)

Step 1: Clean the Glass

Start with a clean surface. I used a basic glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to make sure there was no dust or smudges that could interfere with the tape sticking.

Step 2: Measure & Mark the Center

I measured the width of each door panel and used Frog Tape to mark the center. This helped keep everything lined up as I worked.

Step 3: Divide into Thirds

Next, I divided each side into three vertical sections. Don’t stress over perfection—just eyeball it and aim to keep the spacing consistent. Once you do one door, I just used the tape to follow it along to the other doors. Mine are about 30-31″ apart between each.

Step 4: Apply the Tape

Now the fun part—tape time! I applied the vinyl tape vertically first, then added the horizontal lines to create that classic French door grid. I trimmed the edges with scissors, but you could use a utility knife if you want really crisp cuts.

Final Thoughts:

Total transformation. What once looked plain and builder-grade now gives off cozy, designer vibes. It instantly elevated the space—and took less than an hour from start to finish.

If you’re looking for a quick win with big visual impact, this is it. Perfect for renters, busy moms, or anyone wanting to upgrade their space on a budget—no toolbox required.
